Requirement:
Main electrical feeds to both a factory, sub distribution
panel or production line are vital to the smooth operation of any
building, plant or manufacturing process. Metrum was asked to
carry out a Thermographic
inspection to a main incoming supply at a 24 hour
manufacturing plant for the motor industry.
Solution:
The NEC TH7102MV infrared thermal camera found a localised
"hot spot" on the outside of the main switch in one phase. The problem
was immediately highlighted to the Engineering Director, and as a result
the circuits were switched to the secondary supply.
Outcome:
As this was a potential fire hazard, Metrum felt that it
should be investigated without further delay, and the switch was
immediately opened after being isolated. The hot spot could be identified as a finger connection which was corroded beyond
repair. Because of the non-intrusive nature of the thermal survey,
the problem was located and solved without loss of production.
