Requirement:
With Metrum's reputation as a leading supplier of railway
measurement and monitoring equipment, the Company has been asked to
research electrical problems on the overhead cabling systems and
associated equipment. Electrical connections are susceptible to
corrosion and high resistance which can cause problems with performance
and eventually breakdowns.
Solution:
Inspecting the lines from a safe distance while the lines
are active using an Infrared Thermal Camera is easy, safe and non disruptive.
Using a GPS position and local markings Metrum is able to work with rail
engineers to fully document the areas inspected and detail any problems
found. Systems can also be mounted on the train or in a
helicopter.
Outcome:
Routine preventative maintenance ensures that Maintenance
Departments can provide maximum availability of services ultimately
benefiting the travelling public.
